The Fire here is horrible!!

A large North west part of Colorado Springs is burning. I know the pictures are all over Facebook. So far 32,000 people have been evacuated. The smoke and ash is horrible. I live on the south west end and it breaks my heart to see the devastation. Homes and neighborhoods are on fire they even closed I-25. I'm praying for everyone here.

Went to the Farmers Market!!

This bread I got from the farmers market is the most delicious bread I have ever tasted. The bread is called lemon grass white chocolate bread. I tried a piece and got 2 loaves. I will be back next week for more!! I hope they are going to be there again. I got collard greens, green onions, red onions, zucchini, apricots, plums, nectarines and lavender honey. I'm cooking the collards tonight.

Got a wagon wheel!!

I have been wanting an old wagon wheel for the longest time. I plan on putting it in my yard. Its 52 inches. With the fires going on here, high temps 95 degrees and all the smoke its not a good time to be outside. So its going to have to be in the garage until I decide on the right spot for it.

My Daughters Quilt I made!!

I should have had my husband hold up the quilt so it didn't look wrinkled. I laid it on the living room floor to try and get a good picture of it. The backing of the quilt was made from fabrics that were left over from dresses and clothes or dolls dresses I had made for my daughter Alyssa when she was little. I am currently working on one for my mom. I will show the blocks I have finished so far later this week I have four to go they are appliqued blocks so they are taking me longer.

Very Old Family Photo!!

I have been very into ancestry.com for a few years now trying to trace all the branches of my family tree. My grandmother had this picture and each of ladies names were on it but the eldest lady only said Jane without her last name. The baby in the picture is my great grandmother Nettie Hobbs, her mother is behind her Leta Mae Long, her mother is to the bottom left Hattie May Dyer and to the right is Jane Barge. It took me a year to find out her original last name. I was soooo happy I was able to finally know her name!!! She was born in 1833 and since Nettie was born in 1904 we know the year of the picture. She had to have been one tough ole lady.

My Cherries from my tree and I made Little Pies!!!

Here is my bowl full of my first picking of cherries from my tree!!
Here are the cherries all pitted and mixed with 2 cups of sugar, 2 tbs flour and 1/4 tsp salt
I made my crust using 2 1/4 cups butter, 4 cups flour, 1 tbs sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 2/3 cup cold water, 1 tsp vinegar and 2 tbs sour cream. Mix all dry ingredients first then cut in butter and add all liquids and sour cream together. Mix the liquids with the flour butter mixture. Let it sit over night. I used the small red bowl in the picture as my cutter for the perfect sized circles.
I placed a large spoonful of cherries in the center of each circle. I placed another circle on top using a fork to crimp the top and bottom together.
I mixed 1 egg with a tbs of milk and brushed the top of each pie. I pricked the top with a fork for vent holes  and sprinkled with vanilla sugar.
I baked them in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
The crust batch made 10 pies but I still had cherries left over so made a cherry cobbler!!

Tomorrow I will be posting my swap with Sheila Babneau, "Seasons of Thy Heart" blog!!!
