Red White and Blue Blog Hop!! My Block is Done!!

Thank You so much Madame Samm for having the Blog Hop and Jane from Jane's Fabric and Quilts for hosting. I have never been in a Blog Hop before and loved seeing all the block possibilities. There are so many creative ladies in this Blog Hop with beautiful blocks. Go see all the wonderful creations Jane has the entire 14 day list on her blog!!

I am a beginning quilter. I have only finished 2 quilts and they were both from a quilt block of the month kit where everything was cut out and the fabrics were already selected. So I begin looking through all the books I have acquired in the last few years searching for a pattern. I chose

Then I began searching through all my fabrics. I am more of a doll creator and maker but have wanted to make quilts for the longest time. All those perfect corners scare me. I had to trace my pattern onto paper and then onto fabric to be cut. Those little pieces started to scare me and that I had to applique the little square on the larger flag piece.

These were my choices of fabrics
These are the pieces all laid out after cutting them.

This is my block stitched together and below is the block with my border.
This is my backing and I created a jute hanger that I stitched into the seam for hanging it.
My block hanging on my dining room wall!!! I hand quilted the edge of the star.

July 6th

These are the other wonderful ladies posting today!! I bet their blocks are wonderful take a minute and go visit their posts!!

Great block Cherry! I started quilting many years ago much like you did...purchasing pre-cut kits. I learned so much that way, and through books and classes and workshops and quilting buddies. Its a wonderful, useful, challenging hobby, and you will find that the skills you learn will be useful in your other hobbies, too! Keep on quiltin'!

Cherry you did a fantastic job on your litle quilt square. I love the layout of the flags. Keep up the good work. (Im right there with you, I have only made 4 quilts, and I have found I really like paper piecing, I tend to get my courners even and straight, LOL)

Cherry, you did a great job!! Especially for a beginning quilter, your star points look good and your corners match up so I give you an A+. I can tell you like primitive style by looking at your fabric choices.
Keep sewing, quilting and learning! You may like to check out the Doll Quilter's blog. We make small size mini quilts and many of our quilters like the primitive style. We make them monthly and swap with our partner of the month. Great for beginning quilters!! There are only 36 of us and we need more quilters...check it out.

Great block! Your creativity is wonderful! You should be very proud of yourself - not afraid to "just do it"! Keep on going! You don't need kits!! Have you thought about join a quilters guild in your area? Check at the quilt shops - ask around! You could learn LOTS - and you seem to be a sponge for learning all the "tricks"! You absolutely "have it"!! Yeah!!!

Good job! I used to do everything by hand, but it took me forever to finish a block. Unfortunately I'm not very good with a sewing machine yet. How easy and fast is it with a sewing machine?
